Shutdown of 2G/3G networks and impact on your vehicle connectivity

In the coming years, the 2G and 3G mobile networks in Europe will be gradually switched off.

In some countries, this process has already begun by deactivating the first frequency ranges. The shutdown can have an impact on certain vehicle functions – in particular on mobile online services, the emergency call service or even the legal emergency call eCall in your Volkswagen. Whether your vehicle is affected depends on the equipment and the country in which you are driving.

Important information

In countries such as Iceland, Sweden and Switzerland, the shutdown of 2G and 3G networks is planned from the end of 2025.

If individual network operators in these countries maintain a 2G and/or 3G mobile network, the legal emergency call eCall will continue to be available in the vehicle. The eCall system is not dependent on a specific telecommunications provider.

Volkswagen AG has no influence on the decision regarding the network shutdown. It is made exclusively by the local mobile network operators.

The consequences of the network shutdown only affect vehicles used in one of the aforementioned shutdown countries.
