The VW Amarok at a construction site.
This is Amarok. The new pick-up from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Technical data

The new Amarok is an eye-catcher in all areas. Even when it comes to numbers, dimensions and performance data.

My, how it’s grown

Much has already been said about the exclusive Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles design – but quite a bit has changed beyond the striking lines and broader shoulders. Its length, for example. It has grown by 96 mm to 5,350 mm, its height has increased by 54 mm to 1,884 mm and the wheelbase has increased by a whopping 173 mm to 3,270 mm. And the width? Without exterior mirrors it is 1,910 mm – with exterior mirrors it’s 2,208 mm.

  • More space for euro pallets, more static roof load

Perfect for loading: the new Amarok has enough space on the load area between the wheel housings for a Euro pallet to be loaded sideways on and has sturdy rings for lashing it in place. How many kilograms of tensile force can the rings withstand, you ask? 400 kg! And speaking of kilograms: another new feature is the 85 kg dynamic and 350 kg static roof load. There couldn’t be a better surface to pitch a tent on. Don’t have a tent yet? Then it’s time to visit our accessories store.

  • Maximum trailer weight & transport safety

All automatic gearboxes can now handle up to a whopping 3.5 t maximum trailer weight. On the load area, whose tailgate is now integrated into the central locking system, the fastening rings hold up to 400 kg of towing load. And the load compartment cover is now also electric: it’s a roll cover system that can be controlled from a button in the vehicle interior, on the button in the cargo box or using the vehicle key.

New engines, new gearboxes, new driving profiles

The new Amarok features efficient engines from 125 kW / 170 PS and 405 Nm to 177 kW / 240 PS and 600 Nm. When it comes to the gearbox, you have a choice of 6-speed manual or up to 10-speed shift-by-wire automatic gearboxes, two different 4MOTION systems, a switchable all-wheel drive with three types of drive and a top version with four types of drive. The new driving profiles are available for all models to a varying degree.

  • Three engines

Power and endurance, quiet running and efficiency: an Amarok engine has to be able to the lot – and perform well when doing so. A total of three engines are available: a 4-cylinder diesel with 125 kW/170 PS and 405 Nm (as manual transmission), a 4-cylinder diesel with 151 kW/205 PS and 500 Nm (as manual or automatic transmission) and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel as automatic transmission with 177 kW/240 PS and 600 Nm.

  • Two transmission types

Manual or automatic gearbox? With the Amarok Life and Amarok Style, you have a choice, whereas Amarok PanAmericana and Amarok Aventura come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox with shift by wire as standard. The basic version of the new Amarok comes exclusively as a manual.

  • Six driving profiles

Regardless of whether you start your journey with selectable or permanent all-wheel drive: there are up to six selectable driving profiles which help you steer your vehicle confidently in almost every conceivable situation. For example, depending on the model and in addition to the familiar “Normal” and “Eco” driving profile, “Slippery” is also available for slippery surfaces, and “Snow/Sand” for snow and sand. “Mud/Ruts” supports you on muddy terrain or terrain riddled with ruts, and “Tow/Haul” helps you whenever you need to tow something.
